Over the year we have supported any
families that have presented themselves to
us to register with the local GP’s. Today
there are 100% uptake of registrations with
GPs amongst the Traveller community.

We have completed a comprehensive health
audit of the health status of Travellers
living in Craigavon. 80% of all Travellers
living in Craigavon part-took in the audit
and this has given CTSC the opportunity to
develop programmes to meet the needs
identified in the report.
We are engaged in the process of
facilitating peer researchers to enable our
families to input into the 'All Ireland
Health Study' which is being carried out by
UCD.

For some of our young women trampoline
sessions have been provided for a group in
partnership with Craigavon Leisure Centre.
This programme is part of the ongoing
Healthy Way Forward programme. Two girls
from the group attending lessons are now
being encouraged by their coach to compete
within the sport. This has been an enormous
boost to their self-esteem and confidence.
Subsequent to this a partnership has
developed with Chrysalis to promote
integration and cultural understanding. Five
young Traveller women have been regularly
attending swimming lessons at the local
leisure centre in partnership with some of
the attendees of the Chrysalis young women's
group.
It is important to note that all programmes
offered by CTSC are reviewed on a monthly
basis due to the number of housed and
nomadic families residing in the Lurgan/Craigavon
area. |
